February Review

01Mar10

Another month down, and it’s gone far too quickly, even taking into account the short-change on the days.

Writing:
1) Finish SERE first draft by the end of Feb – *almost* done – within 2 scenes of finishing …
8) Complete and post 3 crits per month for Silver Griffin/Manic Medley – didn’t happen for February, time just vanished
9) Submit 1 (new) short story to a paying market every month – fell by the wayside, as the higher priority stuff took over
10) Post to my blog at least once every week – fell off the edge of the world the last 2 weeks
11) Read at least 12 books and post a review to my blog for each book read – on track – 4/12 read. Added Iain Banks’ ‘Complicity’ to the ‘read’ list, still need to write up a review of it

Textile Arts
a) Maintain and develop relationships with the galleries, and identify/approach/gain 2 new market openings – ongoing. May have coincidentally found a new outlet, waiting to hear back on it
b) Submit a piece to the Surrey Open Art Competition (by end of Feb) – DONE!
c) Do two craft fairs – one summer and one Christmas – invited to do a fair in May, just waiting for confirmation I’ve got a place
d) Update website, keep it and the blog up-to-date – more or less on track with this. Following on from the brain alchemy workshop, I need to re-tweak the website, but I think that’s something that’s possibly a never-ending task

Personal
i) Keep working on reducing my BMI – sensible eating plus 4 exercise sessions per week to hit a BMI of 22 by the end of the year. – on track – the weight is coming off, and my fitness/strength is improving dramatically
ii) Reorganise and redecorate the loft space we use as an office/workspace/spare room by the end of Feb – redecoration is now finally complete, just need to order the furniture and get everything organised once it arrives. Looking forward to decluttering some other areas currently taking up the slack

Not getting distracted by extraneous kipple … the dance show definitely comes under this category. Have decided that I’m going to pull out, because I simply don’t have the time … particularly as the rehearsal schedule is so heavy through May, when I’m going to be stressing about getting stock ready for the craft fair

Needing to juggle things around to accomodate half-term holidays, finishing the Anthriscus piece and finishing SERE has knocked several of the smaller rolling goals into touch … I missed having the time to crit and to work on short stories, but feel good that I’m knocking off the big project targets. It makes me feel that my time planning, writing-wise, is more or less right. Now I need to get it more fine-tuned for the textile work. Going forward, I think it’s probably better to block out a whole week for decorating rather than dragging it out over the weekends. All good learning stuff ….
